How we met

We met when our paths crossed working for a retail and investment bank. Kate was managing a Learning & Development team and Max was a VP in the Client Services team.

We regularly travelled to or from the office together and worked on joint projects supporting the executive team. Projects included rewriting the induction process, a graduate programme, client and employee engagement initiatives and jointly running workshops.

We found that our styles and approaches were similar and different enough that working together was really enjoyable.

How Gooding & Wood was formed

The investment bank we worked for went through a major restructure in 2014 which meant some of the work we had heavily invested time and passion in was cancelled. Our commuter journeys were increasingly spent musing about what would happen if we ran the organisation – or the world!

What we wanted, above everything, was to help people to have a better time in their day job. We knew how unfortunately common it was, for all sorts of reasons, that organisations can sometimes make it almost impossible for people to do their best work.

With our similar outlook and varied experiences, we started to dream about how we could join forces, run our own business and be ourselves more which could only be a good thing for both us and our clients. We could use our skills to help businesses get the best from their people and to help people love what they do and to enjoy their working day and make it feel worthwhile.

As the main breadwinners for both of our families this was potentially quite a risk. But we started thinking about it in earnest, put a business plan together and realised we could, in fact, make it work. We made the leap and Gooding & Wood Ltd became a reality. And we can honestly say we’ve never looked back!

We passionately believe that your working day can and should be better.

We focus on how to make sure you love what you do and make the work day worthwhile. We work with you to free your natural energy and creativity, see the opportunities clearly and to help you move forward positively. We work with individuals, teams and whole businesses.

We provide coaching, leadership and organisation dynamics support to a wide range of clients, companies and charities across the UK.
